The History of the Company

Kryptonics

Kryptonics was founded in 1965 and is based in Huntington Beach, California. The company initially produced and supplied premium polyurethane products to the computer and mining industry.

But created the first Star Trac Skateboard Wheels in 1976. These polyurethane wheels drastically altered the functionality of the skateboard and completely revolutionized skateboarding.

Star Trac Wheels excelled on all skating terrains resulting in numerous trophies, awards, and accolades. Instantly, Kryptonics became the preferred choice of wheels for all types of skateboarding.

From 1976 to mid-2000, Kryptonics was active on the pro skating scene, producing pro series products and sponsoring iconic skaters like Tommy Ryan, David Hackett, Stacy Peralta, Steve Alba, Tony Alva, and Bobby Piercey. Kryptonics was on top of the skateboarding world.

The Evolution of the Company

From mid-2000, the company changed its strategy and started targeting the broader skateboard market. They no longer focused on the professional side of skateboarding but would target kids, beginner, and intermediate skaters.

They also put loads of energy and resources into the Longboard and Cruiser-Style market and offer an array of impressive skateboard designs and a decent board for each skating discipline.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Question: Can You Do Tricks with Kryptonics Skateboards?

Answer: You can but it may be difficult. Kryptonics Skateboards Decks are typically made from 9-ply maple wood. While this design makes the deck super robust, it also makes it quite heavy.
These skateboards are also usually designed for small young kids, so doing tricks with a heavy board may be harder than you might expect.

Question: Are Kryptonics Locker Boards Any Good?

Answer: The Kryptonics Locker board is a decent skateboard for young kids (toddlers) and beginners. I would recommend it for ages 4-8 years. It is not the best kids’ skateboard on the market, but it is a good first board that offers good value for money.

Question: Do Kryptonics Sell Individual Skateboard Decks?

Answer: Currently, the company focuses on complete skateboards. Complete Skateboards are supplied with wheels, trucks, and all the hardware installed. They are designed for young kids and beginner skaters who may have difficulty assembling a skateboard correctly.
The design team carefully pairs the Kryptonics deck with the best possible trucks, bearings, and wheels set up for that particular skateboard.

Question: Are Kryptonics Skateboards Expensive?

Answer: Kryptonics Skateboards are not expensive and fall into the Budget Board category. This does not mean that they are terrible skateboards, they make decent skateboards at a great price.
The Locker Board is the cheapest option and retails for just under $20, and the premium Blocktail- Tahiti Longboard retails for just under $100.

Conclusion: Best Kryptonics Skateboard Guide

Kryptonics is an authentic skateboarding brand that has been around since the mid-1960s. They are one of the oldest skateboarding brands in existence, true pioneers of the sport, and still thriving in today’s market.

With so much history and heritage, it is disappointing that they no longer make pro-series skateboards and accessories. Their current range of street skateboards is ideal for kids and beginners, but unfortunately, it ends there.

However, I like their range of longboards, Cruisers, fat cruisers, and torpedo-style cruisers. These are not the best boards on the market, but great value for money and great boards to just have fun.

My top pick is the Blocktail Longboard – Tahiti. It is the company’s most expensive skateboard, but at $99.99, it is still reasonably affordable. I love the length, blocktail shape, concave design, single kicktail, and Tahiti-inspired graphics.

The ride is smooth, comfortable, and stable with high levels of grip from the 69mm x 55mm cast polyurethane Kryptonics wheels. The ABEC-5 bearings are fast, quiet, and smooth, and the Slant Trucks allow you to carve all day long.
